Default New Years Ting! w/JUAKALI/KUSH ARORA/MAX ULIS/MICHAEL RED/TANK GIRL

New Years Eve is on a freakin THURSDAY this year so you know what that means! Ring in the scary beast called 2010 with all your favourite homies inna true Ting style....meaning rump-shaking bass heavy tunes, cascading fountains of liquor, ridiculously fun hot people, avant-garde dance moves, and waterfalls of "expensive" champagne served out of the finest "goblets!" Don't forget laughter and thrusting which will also be heavily featured on the menu! Along with a musical smorgasbord featuring the likes of:

KUSH ARORA
(Surya Dub/RecordLabelRecords)

Most recently, the hype around Kush's newest works and live sets has been spreading like wild fire. Kush's set was the highlight of all of Shambhala Music Festival for many many people. Not to mention his affiliation with one of the strongest and most consistant dubstep nights in San Francisco, Surya Dub.

In 2004 Kush released Underwater Jihad an instrumental bhangra/industrial/dub/dancehall hybrid with sound design borrowing from his earlier experimental works. Kush followed up on this release with Bhang Ragga, Brooklyn to SF and Dread Bass Chronicles featuring a large lineup of guest vocalists including Juakali and MC Zulu. Most recently Kush has been using elements of dubstep in his work, which can be heard on the Record Label Records release. ‘Dub Elements: Ocean’ a limited edition of 300 red/black marbled vinyl that reflects the more experimental and end of the dubstep tip.

Boiling Over, his most recent release, is a collection of 7 tracks highlighting the dynamic and dark cultural dubstep style that Kush Arora has done in his collaborations and singles over the past 2 years. From tribal grime explorations to UK garage this is a fluid journey through the outer realms of the bass underground that have become his signature sound in dubsessions around the world. Since 2004, this is the first step away from dancehall and a full instrumental release from Kush to present all the influences of the past 5 years. The combination tunes with Sub Swara and J.Rogers span the desi 2 step and deep bass realms, while Kush's ambient past is revealed on “The Staircase." Kush collabs with longtime Surya founder Maneesh The Twister and Bay Area Dub bubblers The Spit Brothers in a Uk digital steppers tribute as well, going full circle in his sonic inspirations.

JUAKALI (Dub War/Sub Swara)

Juakali is a Los Angeles resident, Brooklyn transplant and native of Trinidad and Tobago. He has traveled the world in recent years performing, collaborating with cutting edge artists and igniting audiences in Tokyo, Johannesburg, Amsterdam, Karlovy Vary, Dortmund, Mumbai, to name a few. In 2006, following his FIFA World Cup performances, EGO Magazine described Juakali as an artist "on the forefront of the Reggae, Jungle and burgeoning Dubstep scene in the US and around the world."
He is the host of North America’s first and premier dubstep event, Dub War in New York City, reviewed and revered by The New York Times, Frank151, URB Magazine, among others. Juakali also brings his talent to Sub Swara, a live electronic crew based in New York City that “deal with the most fascinating melt of sound - beats and bass laced with the elemental voice of Juakali...pure heaven...” (Maryanne Hobbs, BBC Radio 1).

As an in-demand vocalist, Juakali has appeared on commercial recordings from Alpha & Omega, Raz Mesani, Pinch, Dub Gabriel and others, impressing both industry and audiences with his ability to innovate across dub, reggae, dubstep, dancehall, bhangra, electronic, and experimental genres. This lead to him being featured as one of the top 5 US Ragga MCs who are, “launching careers as artists and producers… pushing dancehall beyond its boundries…” (‘Chat Bout’XLR8R Magazine – Issue118).

His debut solo Extended Play release, Breakground on GunJah Records/Foreign Familiar (Winter 2008), integrated Juakali's fresh international aesthetic by incorporating dub, dubstep, and electronic genres with a blend of contemporary and inventive producers. Come From Yard is his latest Extended Play release on Foreign Familiar (Spring 2009), this time including dancehall in his repertoire along with lyrics clearly expressing dissent and those encouraging gratitude, community, and optimism.

This is actually really really cool. I've been away from Vancouver a long time but this would be a good show anywhere. It's so cool seeing all the DnB peeps expanding into all these different directions.

I'm psyched! Release a promo mix or something to get us in the holiday spirit
